Rafael Nadal

Caroline Wozniacki
Woniacki won, Clement won, Isner won, Dellacqua won, Cibulkova withdrew again and Cornet beat Vaidisova.

Jet Boy finally fulfils his destiny and takes the No 1 spot, elegantly tossing aside the cardiganed one. It’s been a long wait but we’ve seen the wild Spanish youth slowly improve and transform himself into the (almost) perfect tennis player and do so at the expense of the man we thought was the most complete player – and the GOAT (greatest of all time).

Meanwhile the women changed No 1 too for the umpteenth week - get used to it, it doesn’t mean anything.

Nicole Vaidisova lost again - which is consistent at least – to the up-and-coming now arrived Alize Cornet. Difficult to see where Vaidisova is, has she fallen or is Cornet that good? Judging by recent results it’s probably both. The youngsters have arrived, Cornet and Wozniacki, although Cibulkova withdrew (again) from a “heat related illness”. Time to get fit girl: the US Open is about to begin. Maybe next year then.
