Fernando Verdasco creams the worm

Fernando Verdasco
Gonzalez hung tough to win in five for the second time and it’s only the fourth round. It’s great to watch but one worries for his longevity in this tournament. Verdasco screamed a very personal revenge for his Brisbane final loss to Stepanek by creaming a double bagel for him. I’m guessing it was the worm celebration in Brisbane that prompted it. None of us want to see that again. Tsonga won, Monfils played to the crowd, Simon eased past Ancic, Blake won (what’s he doing in the fourth round – surely he must find some excuse to lose soon), Nadal and Murray cruised. Poor Gasquet who had a match point in the third set, by the time you get to the fifth set he must have been kicking himself for two hours; and no doubt blaming those Chilean fans who kept calling out during his ball toss.

Pennetta looked very ordinary going down to a doubles specialist and Suarez Navarro will no doubt benefit. Zheng and Serena cruised, Azarenka pushed Mauresmo a little closer to the retirement bus, Kuznetsova edged Alona Bondarenko, Cibulkova allowed an astonishing ten games against Razzano to throw away her chances in the bagel contest. Dementieva looked in control against Stosur and was able to break back when she needed to despite several normal lapses.
