Marat Safin cruised into the third round

Marat Safin
Marat Safin cruised into the third round, Bartoli beat Pironkova, Cornet ran through Petkovic, Caroline Wozniacki left a ball on match point against Ruano Pascual and ran to the net to shake hands only to be called back when it was called in. It was just about the only setback for the Danish Essendon lover.

Marina Erakovic played a marathon against Lucie Safarova on the smallest court available (thanks organisers) with both neighbouring courts’ stands filled with people facing the other way. The Kiwis (and they were all Kiwis) appropriated the worst of the Aussie chants – Kiwi Kiwi Kiwi Oi Oi Oi – to prove that they have been living in Australia for far too long. Erakovic lost 9-7 in the third.

Zvonareva double-bageled Gallovits, Errani and Voskoboeva continued their nice runs, Safina struggled and Hantuchova showed why she is the queen of the three setters.

Serb versus Croatian fans on Court 2. The Serb fans won the cheering but Cilic overcame a sluggish Tipsarevic on the court. Is Cilic this good or is Tipsarevic fading? American qualifier Delic also had strong crowd support in overcoming Mathieu in a long match.
