Maria Sharapova breaks Jankovic's resolve

Maria Sharapova Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis - Day 7
Maria Sharapova finally won a tournament in her comeback by beating a sullen Jelena Jankovic in Toyko. Jankovic retired down 5-2 and appearsed to lose interest early on. She hasn't pulled form Beijing yet though, unlike Ana Ivanovic who's done for the year. "My body is quite fragile at the moment..." she wrote, "On the positive side, I am still No.11 in the world. I have no clue how I am ranked so highly, but to look on the bright side, I can't play any worse than I did this year and I'm still in the top 20!" Er yes, but if you skip the rest of the year you won't stay in the top 20...

The nicely slumping Alize Cornet actually won a match committing a balefully few unforced errors - sorry Stosur.

Errani beat Glatch - there's some potential going unfulfilled, qualifier Radwanska the lesser sunk to a dismal Schnyder, Bondarenko the Lesser followed big sis's example and took out Kirilenko. Safina won a match, Benesova and Rybarikova are done and Serena cruised.
