Jelena Dokic lost to Ana Ivanovic

Jelena DokicCibulkova returned to thrash Dulgheru in Auckland, Chaky continued her poor form - wilting before Date Krum, Wickmayer took out her frustrations on Goerges and Pennetta beat Craybas.

Ana Ivanovic played Jelena Dokic in Brisbane in an all Serb battle that “Aussie” Ana won. Exactly why the press has to adopt these idiotic “Aussie” pretensions remains unknown. Presumedly because none of our own players are good enough, leaving us to devour any others we can get. Whether Ivanovic has actually improved under Adidas’ Sven’s watchful eye is also unknown.

Henin won, joining Clijsters, Roddick, Stepanek, Hantuchova and Gasquet in the second round. The other comeback kid Malisse lost in qualifying. King looks sharp. Vinci won the battle of Italy. Dellacqua lost to Karatantcheva and Benesova lost to Petkovic. Chardy lost again.

Venus lost to Sharapova while they acclimatise to the Australian heat by freezing in Hong Kong. How long till they complain about Melbourne’s oppressive heat after turning up at the last minute? At least the men are playing their hit and giggle in the middle east where it’s always hot.
